Does Your Location Qualify for Wind?

Wind energy is powerful — but it's not for every site. Before installing a turbine, your location must meet three key requirements. Read these carefully. If you're unsure about any of them, our team can do a free wind analysis for your site.

Open Area & Clear Wind Passage

Your site must have an open, unobstructed area with a clear path for wind to flow. Tall buildings, dense trees, or other structures nearby can significantly block or redirect wind, reducing turbine output drastically.

Rooftops of open buildings, farmlands, hilltops, and lakeside or coastal locations are ideal. Congested urban areas with tall surroundings are generally not suitable.

Minimum Average Wind Speed of 4 m/s

Wind turbines require a minimum average annual wind speed of 4 metres per second (≈14 km/h) to generate meaningful energy. Below this threshold, the turbine will underperform and the investment may not make sense.

Wind speed varies by location and season. Coastal regions, Western Ghats, hilltop resorts (like Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar), and open farmlands typically meet this requirement.

Frequent Power Cuts — Not Just Bill Reduction

Wind energy is best suited for locations with frequent power outages — where reliable energy availability matters more than cost reduction. Wind turbines generate power 24/7 including nights and during the monsoon, making them excellent for energy security.

If your primary goal is to reduce electricity bills, Solar is the better and more economical choice. Wind systems are comparatively more expensive and are best justified in high-wind areas like Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar, coastal zones, and locations with unreliable grid power.
